Knobby Knees Skeleton!

Just when you thought there was only one skeleton pattern online - I have created another one!
Knobby Knees Skeleton just debuted on and he's a hit already! He is really going to give Realistic Bona Fide a run for his money that's for sure!! Both skeletons have their own distinct look. I can not choose which one I like better so please don't ask me!!

Knobby Knees Skeleton will be great decked out in embroidery for Day of the Dead! He has a sugar skull look to him that is yelling "Break out the embroidery floss or bright colored yarn!!"

He's 17" tall and quite a bit buffer than Realistic Bona Fide as well. It is like apples and oranges!
Come and check him out! He's in the Creatures and Monsters as well as in the Halloween!

Holy Handbag! An error has been spotted!

Corlene was super to let me know an error was found in the Realistic Bona Fide Skeleton! He had a broken pelvic bone which one can only imagine as being very painful in real bones but in a crochet pattern when you get to something and the math just does not add up it's just as painful!

Round 10 of the pelvic bone has had surgery and now he's good to go and can be downloaded again in your download area - although if you want to save a bit of paper you can correct your print out with a quick slip of the pen
Round 10 should read....
Round 10: Sc in 3, sc2tog twice, sc in 6, 2sc in 2, sc in 5 (20)

What do you get when you have a Head Hunter without his spear?? A very under dressed head hunter! Redownload that file to get this latest in savage fashion accessories! Your Head Hunter will thank you! How can he go to work without all of his tools?!

If ever you find an error please let me know! I strive to create fun, easy to understand patterns that are error free. Sadly, I am still only human. I won't be upset if you contact me to let me know a ball got dropped - I will actually be extremely happy that you took the time to contact me so I can get it fixed for good!

Every Day is Halloween

The last design I made was the Realistic Bona Fide Skeleton and I loved him! He was so challenging and realistic and detailed.... these guys though? Well, I went with a whimsical approach and have started working on classic horror movies. I grew up loving horror movies and books so I have begun my homage to them!

Behold! Frankenstein.... the Bride of Frankenstein and Dracula!
I brought them all back from the dead and gave them new life in acrylic yarn!
They will be hiding out in the Halloween and Creatures and Monsters groups!

Something Wicked This Way Comes...

I have been threatening to make this pattern for a long time and I am just thrilled with the end result! There is no other pattern online that I was able to find that even comes close to this guy! So you can say hey, I saw it at first!

There was an obscure Halloween crochet booklet that came out in the early 80's that had a skeleton pattern but it was very cartoony and all the bones were made separately and then you had to go and sew the joints all together and the skull looked more like a balloon than a skull and the pelvic bones were just flattened circles pretty much - just not very realistic. I vowed to make a skeleton that even the most gothic crocheters would love - and the boys - and the Sinbad lovers - and anyone who loves Halloween or Day of the Dead - just a good fun, slightly creepy because it can not always be cute and cuddly.....
Introducing the Realistic Bona Fide Skeleton.
How on Earth did he get that name??? Well, "Realistic Skeleton" just was too boring for me. I like to have pattern names with a little pizazz... Yes, I know, I know not all of mine do but whenever I can I try to.... So with the help of the handy dandy thesaurus I looked up "realistic" and "bona fide" came up and all I could think of was O Brother Where Art Thou? and Holly Hunter saying that He's bona fide and I was sold... okay, and it did help that it had bona in it - get it? bona - bone... I know, I know. I only amuse myself sometimes.

So there is the story of how the skeleton came to be.

He'll be up on the site by Friday so keep an eye out!!!

Shhhh! Here they are!!

So these guys got their photo shoot today - and they had fun. They're a bunch of hams I'm telling ya! They're out with a few testers as I type - and hopefully will come back with a clean bill of health quickly so they can make their official entrance!

Still looking for an official name... I have had a few suggestions and I'm leaning towards one that was made.... I'm still entertaining other names though! Let me know what you are thinking!!

What's in a Name?

Here is a preview of the newest addition to the family.
She is out with a few testers and hopefully will get her official debut sometime next week....

She will also have a male companion to keep her company - I'll get a picture of him up soon...

Here she is - she stands 9 1/2" tall and works up very quickly.

Suggest a name! Don't let this poor cutie go nameless!!

She is so new that she still hasn't gotten her facial features or her hair cut & styled. She hasn't even had her official photo shoot - which explains the couch she is hanging out on... She will get it all together soon though!!

Attack of the Hairmet!!

So not everything goes exactly as you envision.... and even though it takes hours for you to create something it just needs to go away... far away....

Case in point.
Take the Hairmet.
I have a new series of dolls that will be debuting in the near future on and I was thinking how cool would it be to crochet the hair in one piece in different hair styles - kind of like those weird dolls that have formed hair ya know?.. Okay. yes, there should have been a warning beacon going off right there... but it had been on my mind so I HAD to do it.

Not everything pans out the way you have it all pictured in your mind. Take the Edsel for instance yet somehow that ridiculous Segway is somehow lingering on and being pushed. Utterly ridiculous.

So behold the Hairmet. Nipped in the bud long before it goes out to the world but I thought I would share the hairmet in all of its horrific glory since we all have been there - making something that you envision and it just doesn't turn out the way you plan it...
My husband took one look at it and said "Is that hair?? I thought it was a hood" he then said it looked like a helmet so it has become the Hairmet.... before I buried it in the back yard and put it out of its misery I had to get a few snapshots of it so that it can be giggled at from time to time. I think it reminds me of the Ewoks hood thingy in Star Wars.....

Second Sight Thrift Store

I have been missing in action for a few weeks and I'm sure there are a few that are wondering if I fell from the face of the earth in to some unknown cavern transporting me mysteriously to some dinosaur filled land that is way cooler than Will Farrell's version of a nifty netherworld...

But the kids are out of school... then I went on vacation for a bit.. but I'm back and will be coming back strong! Look for new designs on the site to roll out the end of the month and
throughout the upcoming months!

If you have made a creation - please email me pictures! I'd love to post them up in the Gallery of Greatness!!

Anyhooo.... I wanted to show off some pictures from my trip!
I went to a great thrift store Called the Second Sight Thrift Store - it specializes in FABRIC!! whoo hooo! Here is their fabric department - okay, I'll come clean - they also have clothing - fancier stuff for formals and whatnot from the looks of it but I don't go to that area.. I go to the fabric area.... no surprises there, aye?

The Second Sight Thrift Shop, operated by volunteers of Visual Impairment & Blindness Services, is now located at:
The Trolley Station Mall

Build a Buddies and Killdeer chicks

I wanted to let you all know right off the bat that I made a big change to the Perfect Sized Stuffie series - the name has been bothering me from the get go so I up and changed it. That is not a normal thing for me to do and yes, it is rather unprofessional. I feel like Ford changing the Windstar to the Freestar... but I did it... You can still find them - but look under Build a Buddy since that is so much more appropriate!

The killdeer's eggs have finally begun to hatch! Buster has let them be fortunately. I'm glad he did. I don't know if I could have handled him destroying more of her eggs... So without further ado - a few pics of the proud mama and her babies!

Killdeer in my Pepper Patch

I have had a returning killdeer since we moved here 3 1/2 years ago - and each year she tends to build her nest in the middle of the grass - which is not like the normal killdeer - they lay their eggs in gravel...

However this year she decided to do something different. She must have remembered Buster chasing her away each and every time last year - so this year she laid her eggs in the mulch around one of my almond trees.. Buster did finally find her nest and that was pretty much the end of the story.... until I spotted her hanging around my garden....

When I put hte garden in a bit ago she had already taken up residence - she somehow indented last year's newspaper weedblock and she moved in some wood chips for decoration and laid 4 more eggs...

She has been becoming more and more tolerant of us in the yard and she doesn't seem to mind th sprinkler in the garden although the first time or two it really freaked her out. Yesterday she was actually walking with the water drops looking like she was taking in a bath. It was really adorable and I regret not getting it on film....

But here are pics of her and her nest. Her babies should be out soon. It seems like forever since she laid them!

Perfet Sized Stuffies are up on the site!

Last night I released the Perfect Sized Stuffies to the site.
The headhunter, hula dancer, devil and the base pattern of course are up on the site very reasonably priced. I do try to keep prices on the low side.

I am starting to work on more scalps/hair for this series as well as removable clothing. I'm hoping to get some ready for next weekend. I have a few testers with several of these dolls already made up and just waiting to be finished off.

I will say that within minutes of the Perfect Sized Stuffie series going live I had my first sale with them. That did not take long. I'm not sure if the purchaser just happen to be on the site and said oh my! Look at that! of if they saw pictures on Ravelry, crochetville or Craftster... who knows.

David will be working on more improvements on the site in the upcoming weeks as well. He has several things on his to do list - some of them are technical requests from me and others are things to make surfing the site easier - like the ability to have one item in two different categories. I know it seems like a trivial thing and those of us that do not work with computers much but apparently it is a big thing with writing perl and websites. He is working on it though!

Spring fever has hit me as well and I have been gardening like a madwoman! I'll be taking some pictures today to show off what all is in bloom. I promised to make this a not always business blog! I regret that I missed taking pictures of the flowering almond when it was in full bloom. That is such a beautiful shrub but my variegated weigelia is gorgeous! I'm so happy it is doing so well!

Perfect Size Stuffies Nearly Ready!

You guys are probably starting to wonder if I have been sleeping on the job - but I assure you I have been working - and working hard!

I have a new series of upgradable amigurumi dolls - and I'm kicking them off with a bit of heat! Some from way down under and some from an island or two...

Here are a few sneak peeks!
They will all be available shortly! They are out with testers as I finish up a few more accessories for the hula dancer and the head hunter....!

It's Notta Cat Monster is on the loose!

Warning! Notta Cat Monster is on the loose! He is an intimidating 8 1/2" tall so beware! He might kick your ankles!!

He's a fun to stitch, 3 lumped/bumped/horned dude that can be given a ton of different looks just by changing the yarn color and your embroidered features!

Next on the horizon?
My lips are sealed. I'm not telling!

On the Cover...

So I knew I was going to be on the cover of Creative Home Arts Magazine - which is sadly not available on the news stand... You have to have a subscription to get the magazine but it is only $12 a year so it's not too bad. I just subscribed because of my Rainbow Bunny being on the cover...
Over here on the left is the cover shot... so sweet!

But who knew that this bunny should actually be on the next season of Top Model? Strike a pose!
How on earth did they get him in to those positions??? I can't find anywhere the size of this bunny but it is HUGE. We are talking like 30" long huge!

So here's one of the other shots of him in the magazine. I am beyond proud of this guy!

I just had to share my wanna be skier Rainbow Bunny hot off the presses! Even cooler - I was sent three copies of the magazine! When I subscribed I told the woman that I was the designer - she must have sent me a care package! Very cool indeed.

Rawr! It's Plato!

Plato is done! And already up on the site!
I wanted to keep him all secretive and hush hush until I unveiled him. I do like a bit of a mystery and suspense every now and again....
But he's here...
Plato the Stegosaurus

Anyhoo..... Here is Plato and his other friend, Plato. Two finishes for the price of one hahaha. You can either go fun with the basic triangles or go for a slightly more accurate creation....

And did you notice where he was put? In a Prehistoric category! Hmmm... Could that mean there will be more Triassic, Jurassic, Cretaceous - maybe even Cenzoic creations in the future?
We'll see... I have moved on to something else though but sadly for you dino lovers, it is not another dino...

On another note - can you believe that Buster the Bunny and that the Caron Sock Monkey Toy have both been downloaded over 500 times already? That raindrop can not even come close to beating that! Not that I am slagging the serene raindrop but I don't see her catching up to those two any time in the near future!

It's Notta Cat Monster

So I have to say It's notta cat okay?! lol.
Seriously. I created a monster and it does kind of remind me of a cat - a rather mutant one with an extra bit on the top of his head but I do love him. I did not intentionally make him in orange and blue being all yeah for Auburn University and all. I have to admit to a bit of total laziness... Here I am on the couch.. and I wanted to add some facial embroidery - well, the burgundy just did not pop.. there was no black to be seen so I spied at the end of the couch a skein of blue. sold! Blue embroidery it was! So sorry to any Auburn fans - it was not intentional just looked good together so I flew with it!

He will soon be out for testing and hopefully be up on the site soon.

And then the dinosaurs marched in.....

I am nearly completely done with a dinosaur. All I can say now is that he is pretty darn cool. He is just a stegasaurus but he is my stegasaurus. It isn't the first one I have designed though - and is loosely based on the previous one that was published in Creative Home Arts Magazine - although he is much smaller - more like half the size.

I did not just resize the pattern... I did start from scratch but when you have a style things just are very reminiscent no matter what you do to them. I'll post up pictures after I get all those spikes sewn on to his back and complete the second one. This one will have two different ways to finish it off so I get to do double duty with the hook and yarn...

The Cat has a name and the cows have been corralled!

Curiosity the Cat has been released on - check out this feisty feline here.. Crocheted Animals Category He didn't have a name but then Curiosity got the better of me and out with El Gato and in with Curiosity!

Have you been wondering what that last bovine looks like? She's out for testing - so who knows - those cows might actually be up by the end of the week - we'll see how fast those testers of mine can whip these guys up lol...!

I will be back on the design couch tonight with a new project in mind.... I'm going to keep it a secret since I don't even know what I am going to end up making yet! I am going to let the yarn tell me what to create after I go to the yarn closet, close my eyes, reach in and grab a few skeins of yarn.. whatever I pull out is going to become my next project! Who knows what I will end up with!!

The return of the Sock Monkey...

For those that have made sock monkeys that sounds like a great title for a monster movie - sock monkeys the size of Godzilla squashing houses and cars as they come to town - reproducing faster than cockroaches.... but wait! A little lost girl is standing in the middle of a street with this army of sock monkeys about to demolish her when the love of sock monkeys pours out of her heart and all the sock monkeys magically shrink to cuddle size and she picks up the leader and gives him a hug... awwwww.... happy endings...

Well. I for one can not say the same about sock monkeys! It was Autumn, 2006. I was asked to create a sock monkey - and was sent yarn... I created said sock monkey and all along was not happy - It is hard for me to design something as shapeless as a sock monkey - not difficulty wise but I like shape and style - sock monkeys are kind ofwell, stuffed tubes sewn together... so I made said sock monkey and sent him in.... Well... Long story short turns out it wasn't quite what they were looking for and I needed to remake a monkey... They sent the monkey back to me (who soon afterwards became named something not very nice considering that when you sat him down his tail would stick up between his legs.... but we are not going to go there) anyhoo.... replacement monkey created and sent in - still shapeless by my standards but he was exactly what they were looking for - a sock monkeyesque monkey....

Well... It goes to print... pattern pulls all over the country are being ripped off their little pattern pull pads... someone in one of my Amigurumi yahoo groups slags me for making such a crappy shapeless pattern and that she could not get it to look like the one in the picture and so on and so forth... I take out sock monkey pattern - I had not even looked at the for nostalgia one that I had been given by my mother - and well... yup. wrong pattern... it was for the original monkey!

So It has been almost two years since that pattern was realeased... My website goes up and I email Caron after a few weeks to let them know it was up and running - and I get an email back the next day - asking for the right sock monkey pattern... It got edited and it is on its way back to the printer for a second printing of the pattern....
And I was given permission to post it up on the website to my surprise and total glee. I'm tickled that I can get it up on the site and release the right sock monkeyesque monkey - who was given the creative name *Sock Monkey Toy*

Now to work on their stuffed animal naming.... yeah. They all need names of one sort or another - and I have fallen prey to that - My Smidgens are not named - but hey! Smidgens itself is the name... and I'm really not sure if I am going to name each cow in the Bevy of Bovines... although I'm sure I will. Two out of three of the patterns are out for testing.... I still have time to think!

Til then... The Sock Monkey has returned...
You can download him here..

OH Bull!

The second in the Bevy of Bovines set is completed... I will be working on the final one soon - maybe even today. We shall see.... I am a bit hoarse today. My throat is scratchy and froggy and my face feels a bit warm... I am not feeling the healthy love today... so we shall see how much I actually get done!

I got the ears the way I want them and I am pleased with the bull....! How often can you actually say you are pleased with a bit of bull?

He's roughly 6" tall and 6" long - just a good size over all!

I am not sure what is next on the design couch after these guys. I am still in the middle of a set of Russian stacking dolls... I really need to get them done... but I also have some fabric crocheted baskets that are ready to get remade and edited. So many projects... so little time!

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

I have been talking about the Smidgens and just realized that I have not posted any pictures of these guys! There's Bunny, Dog and Cat - yes, so creatively named. Dog. Bunny. Cat. Hey! You can't have brilliant names for everything, right? They are Smidgens after all and that part is creative! The set of three are together and are ready to go! Here is a direct link to them...

Well. I am going back to the design couch and work on some more cows! One down, two to go!

A Bevy of Bovines is pulling out of the corral soon!

The first in a trio of cows is done - and the other two are soon to follow! The first one is a longhorn steer! I just had to come out of the rodeo cage just wild! I'm smitten with him!

But before that cow moves in to your heart check out this cat! El Gato is out for el testo and will be up sooner than the cows! Look for this feline to debut in the next week...!

New this week? Monoster and the first set of Smidgens! The Smidgens are a trio of cuties with jointed arms and legs just waiting to be posed and played with! Monoster also can have jointed arms and is not going to take no for an answer! Check them out in the Creatures & Monsters category and the Animals category - the Animals category is new and already getting filled in the upcoming weeks!

New Free pattern and another monster on the way!

It has been a few days since I have updated my blog and I am so sorry! I have been super busy. Next week is the school's book fair and I was helping set up and then took a day off and did some errands and just tooled about town hitting thrift stores looking for elusive bargainy goodness :) I did end up finding some super fabric at a rummage sale. Gotta love a good rummage sale!!

I have uploaded Buster Bunny. He is my latest free pattern!
He can be found here....

Now on to what is around the corner...

Can you Monoster?
Yes... the mono eyed monster.
There is 3 Eye Guy and now there is Monoster... He is out for testing right now and hopefully will be debuting on the site before the weekend is over!
I will certainly let you know when he is up and looking around the site..

I can say he will be in the Creatures & Monsters category here...

The first of the Smidgens are soon to reach the site as well. They are being tested as well! The first set of Smidgens are animals - cute pets - a dog, cat and rabbit... the next set are going to be robots and the third set will be monsters...!

Friday, February 27, 2009

Buster Bunny is just around the corner!

Buster Bunny is hot off the design couch! He is already in the trusted arms of one of my testers and hopefully he will be unleashed to the world by the end of the weekend - just in time for him (or her) to be created and hidden until the Easter bunny leaves him (or her) in some soon to be spoiled kids!

Now my kids would much rather get an Easter robot, bent on world destruction as opposed to a mild mannered rodent with oversized ears but hey... boys will be boys!

Of course I will let you know when he is available...

Also in the hands of my trusty team of testers is Monoster... the one eyed monster. He will be making his debut on the website sometime next week...

I have also begun to work on a new series of creatures where the placement of arms, legs and tails will be history! The Perfect Placement series are one of my next visions to make it to paper and yarn.

My husband has requested that in honor of Google indexing quite a few of the pages of my site I should create a Googlebot which I will - of course I can't use the name Google in it so I will be a bit creative with naming it as well.... but that might actually get put above the Perfect Placement series just to make him happy. Gotta make The Man happy ya know. He is after all the computer brains behind the operation and if he requests something, better snap to it!

My most recent quilt

I never thought I would like quilting. When I used to think of quilts I would think of the stuffy boring grandma looking stuff that I remember when I was growing up - but man! I tell you what I like it! I like it a lot! I really do! I have only made a few so far but I really enjoy it. In fact.. I *should* be doing some quilting right now. I have a Craftster swap coming up and I want to include a little something something in that package - and it is due on Monday! But alas. I have a sick child at home - two days in a row now. Yesterday I sat on the couch next to him as we watched hours of Animal Planet's Most Extreme and a variety of History Channel shows on ancient worlds, battle tech and whatnot. He is a boy through and through... I do have something up my sleeve for the site though - no, I can not stop thinking about designing. It's what I do. It's what I am ... Let's just say it involves a dowel possibly... and some plastic canvas which I would normally say yuk to (I am not a fan of plastic canvas. No sir, I didn't like it) but it will be hidden - completely hidden and only used for its plasticky ridgidness. I might just use plastic canvas all around instead of a dowel - although the dowel might still come in handly....

Oh! the suspense! I think it's going to be a hit with Collin. Okay. I know it will be a hit with him. It might bring some smiles to others too.... I'll be getting on that while he's not at home. It will be very culvert. I don't want him to know what is up my sleeves!!

Oh! Quilts! Here is a picture of my most recent one!

I made this for my son's teacher's son. He has stage 4 Hodgkin's and is going to be having a bone marrow transplant soon.

I wanted to make something to make his stay in the clean room a bit warmer - and not so hospital like. He is a HUGE LSU fan and with the help of some online friends I was able to obtain a bit of LSU material which I transformed in to a not so stuffy quilt.

I used my embroidery machine to do the stippling - a football design that I poorly digitized with the help of Embird... I will digitize more stippling designs now that I have found the tutorial on how to do them properly! I know he liked the quilt a lot - a picture of him holding it up was posted on his blog.

I'm really happy with the end result - oh and yes that is fleece on the backside. I used fireside fleece to be extra warm and snugly!

I finished up the first set of Smidgens yesterday! I think they are just too adorable - but then I am biased! I have had a lot of positive feedback from those that have seen the pictures - they are only about 7" tall from top of the head to the tip of their toes..... and you can make them jointed so they sit!

So far there is the dog, bunny and cat - want to name each one of them?

In the works? A set of monster smidgens! Monsters and robots are a hit so they are next on the to do list after I finish a request from one of my testers... which I will keep as a surprise until I have pictures!

Bumbles Bounce!

My yeti and bigfoot are out for testing right now.... hopefully my testers will finish theirs soon so that I can add him to the site... I wanted to go for the Bumbly look...
You know from the Christmas Claymation cartoon... yeah... you remember the one, don't you?

Well..... here is my yeti... picture him in fun fur! One of my testers did and I can't wait to show you the pictures of it - just adorable!
But for now.. here is the yeti and bigfoot... soon to be unleashed on a website near you!

He's not up but will be soon...!

And they're off!

The new website - - is up and running and getting a lot of traffic!

Are you wondering what the first pattern that was bought was? It happened about an hour after the site opened! Talk about nearly breaking down the door when it comes to a website!

It was Galen... and the pattern for the dress too!
Here is Galen - along with the other Critter Collection Barnyard Friends. The patterns can be purchased individually or in a combo pack for a discount - the discount being buy 2 get one half off - not too bad for a deal!

Here is the direct link to Galen..
Galen the Goat is the one on the right...
Also shown is Parker the Pig and Cameron the Cow

What else has been popular?
Monsters! Monsters! And more monsters!

Meet Dewey....

and 3 Eye Guy...

And the Robots are the talk of the universe!

Tobor and Cyclopsbot - both finishes are in the same pattern!

And then there's Mr. Roberto and his friend Mr. Roberto...

And Bubba Bubblebot who has been a favorite as well!

My kids are more in to space ships and rockets - and I have them - or at least I used to have them - they confiscated them and they are now in their rooms... I'll have to make more for Etsy I suppose...
Introducing Light Speed!

And the last picture I'm going to put up right now is another rocket... Warp Drive

Come and visit - I have new lower prices. They will not be lowered again until a sale is planned - which won't be until Summer.... so get out your hooks and create something great then send me an email with some fun pictures and I'll upload them to the site in the Gallery of Greatness - which will be appearing soon!
